These are the materials I use on a daily basis! Our method is school-at-home, so we try to purchase materials that follow the common core standards.

PHONICS
MCP Phonics, Level A
The Modern Curriculum Press Plaid series works! A wide variety of exercises keeps the lessons from being repetitive. It's inexpensive and makes learning to read fun. My absolute favorite phonics program, we were turned onto the series by a master reading teacher.

READING
Reading, Grade 1 (Spectrum)
Students read a story, then answer a series of questions. The stories get progressively harder throughout the book. Although there are some grammar and phonics questions, it is primarily a comprehension workbook.

SPELLING

WRITING
Writing Curriculum: Week-By-Week Lessons: Grade 1
The best writing curriculum I have found! Lots of helpful information including the stages of writing, assessing students, helping struggling writers, and using your spelling curriculum in conjunction with your writing program. After the intro and useful teaching guidance, daily writing prompts for each month and weekly assignments are provided.
First Graphic Organizers: Writing: 30 Reproducible Graphic Organizers That Build Essential Early Writing Skills
Wonderful resource to help students organize their writing with illustrations and drawings. Highly recommend.

MATH
Spectrum Math, Grade 1
Spectrum Math books teach the common core standards in way that is easy to understand. Skills are taught in a logical order, with each skill building on the next.

SCIENCE
First Grade Science: Earth & Space, Life, Physical
Great resource for early science. At the beginning of each unit is a guide for parents/teachers with background information for teaching the unit. Assessments and extra activity ideas are also included. This book is meant to be photocopied and the pages are a newsprint type of weight. You can certainly use it as a write-in workbook if you want. Simply photocopy the few pages that have cutting of pasting and use the copied page to paste in the original.
Take It to Your Seat Science Centers, Grades 1-2
Fun, full-color activities that reinforce your main curriculum. My daughter loves this series and always asks for more.
Enchanted Learning
This is an affordable subscription site with a variety of lessons for different subjects. I personally LOVE their science activities the best.
